Gilbert Reid lived and worked for 30 years in Europe, in the UK, France, and, above all, in Italy, as a diplomat in Rome and London, as an economist at the OECD in Paris, as a university lecturer for six years in Sicily, and as a journalist, script-doctor, and public relations Jack-of-all-trades in Rome. For many years, he wrote for the Times Literary Supplement. He has written for The Globe and Mail and many other publications. For 11 years he was Director of the Canadian Cultural Center in Rome. Since returning to Canada in late 1994, he has written many television series and specials - notably series about the Hudson's Bay Company, about the two world wars, about Myanmar, and about the role of automatic weapons in history, and he has written and broadcast on radio for CBC IDEAS, notably the two five-hour series, Gilbert Reid's Italy and Gilbert Reid's Italy. His So This is Love: Lollipop and Other Stories was named by The Globe and Mail as one of the 100 best books of the year. His most recent work includes a dystopian trilogy - Extinction Book 1 Girl with the Golden Eyes, Extinction Book 2 Revolt of the Angels, Extinction Book 3 Elysium, and an erotic trilogy that begins with The Shaming of Gwendoline C, and a historical novel, Son of Two Fathers, set in the Italian Renaissance, co-written with the late Jacqueline Park, and published by House of Anansi Press.
