A brief overview of my work (up to 400 characters)
Melanie K is a recent graduate from the MA Art and Science course at Central Saint Martins. After graduating, Melanie founded the London Alternative Photography Collective which aims to help alternative photographers share ideas and processes, and includes monthly talks at the Double Negative Dark Rooms in Hackney. Melanie is also part of the Space Is Ace art collective along with three other Art and Science graduates, all of whom have a strong interest in astronomy.
Melanie's thesis compared 17th Century Dutch Vanitas paintings which used the soap bubble as a visual metaphor for the brevity of life, and compared these to cosmological theories such as multiverse and inflation theory, considering whether the universe is just a quantum fluctuation from nothing. Melanie's research areas are incredibly broad and enquire into subjects as far reaching as neuroscience, consciousness, death and memorial culture, existentialism and the history of photography and science.
